For years now, operating both personal and business Instagram accounts has kind of been a drag. There’s always the possibility that your toddler may accidentally post a selfie to your business page. Which, while adorable, may not be the right photo for your target audience. Instagram account switching has been a long requested feature. And, now it’s finally going to be supported by the photo-sharing giant.
Instagram announced in a statement this week that you can now quickly and easily switch between multiple accounts without logging in and out. When switching between your personal or business Instagram account, you always had to dig into your profile, log out, remember your password for the other account, login, post your photo and remember which account you’re posting to the next time. Obviously, this isn’t a huge problem when it comes down to it. But, it’s inconvenient nonetheless. Starting this week, Instagram account switching finally debuts.
How Instagram Account Switching Works
- Go to your profile settings to add an additional account
- Tap your username at the top of your profile to switch between accounts
- When multiple accounts are added, you’ll see your profile photo appear in places throughout the app so you can always tell which one you’re using at the moment
Instagram account switching will be available as part of the version 7.15 upgrade for iOS and Android platforms.
Instagram has been testing this feature for some time and first appeared for Android users in November. iPhone users began to see the functionality last week as part of the version 7.15 upgrade. It could still be a few days before all users see Instagram account switching functionality within the app. This comes as great news whether you’re an individual switching between personal and professional Instagram accounts, or a digital marketing agency managing a large number of accounts. In the past, viewing multiple streams had to be done on a third-party application like Hootsuite. Now, with Instagram account switching, you will be able to manage multiple accounts with ease directly from the native app.
